Sales Order Creation
The sales order process begins with creating a sales order in D365 F&O. A sales order can be entered manually or created directly from a sales quotation once the customer approves the quote. During this step, key details such as customer information, item numbers, quantities, prices, delivery dates, and warehouse locations are defined.
Sales Order Confirmation
After reviewing and finalizing all order details, the sales order is confirmed. Confirmation locks the order details and allows the system to generate a Sales Order Confirmation document. This document can be sent to the customer as formal acknowledgment of the order and serves as a reference for both sales and warehouse teams.
Warehouse Picking Process
Once the sales order is confirmed, warehouse operations can begin. Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations supports multiple picking strategies based on warehouse configuration, including:
- One-step picking
- Two-step picking (Pick and Pack)
Warehouse workers use these processes to pick items from designated warehouse locations efficiently and accurately.
Shipping and Packing Slip Generation
After the picking process is completed, the order is shipped. At this stage, D365 F&O generates a Packing Slip, which confirms the quantities shipped to the customer. The packing slip is often included with the physical shipment and serves as proof of delivery.
Sales Order Invoicing and Financial Posting
The final step in the sales order lifecycle is invoicing. When the sales order invoice is posted, an Invoice document is generated and sent to the customer, detailing the charges for the delivered items.
Simultaneously, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations automatically updates the General Ledger, ensuring that revenue, cost of goods sold, and related financial entries are recorded accurately.
Conclusion
The sales order process in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations provides an integrated and controlled approach to managing customer orders. By seamlessly connecting sales, warehouse, and financial operations, D365 F&O ensures operational efficiency, transparency, and accurate financial reporting across the organization.
