Creating and Assigning an Operating Unit Number to a Store
Introduction
Operating Units are organizational entities in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Commerce that help structure and manage a company’s economic resources and operational processes. They enable businesses to segment operations for reporting, control, and transactional purposes.
An Operating Unit can represent one of the following organizational types:
- Cost Center
- Business Unit
- Department
- Retail Channel
- Value Stream
In a retail implementation, Operating Units are commonly used to represent stores and other retail channels.
Creating an Operating Unit
To create a new Operating Unit for a retail store, follow the steps below:
Navigation path:
Organization administration > Organizations > Operating units
- Select New.
- Enter the following basic information:
- Name: Houston
- Retail channel number: 052
- Operating unit type: Retail channel
General Tab Configuration
On the General tab, configure the following fields:
- In hierarchy: Yes
- Channel type: Retail store
- Legal entity: USRT
- Warehouse: Houston
- Retail Channel ID: 000017
- Sales tax group: TX
- Default customer: 100001
Address Tab
On the Address tab, enter the store’s physical address details:
- Address:
Houston Store
5015 Westheimer Rd
Houston, TX 77056
USA - Purpose: Business
- Primary: Yes
