Introduction
After the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce solution has been successfully deployed through Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services (LCS), it is essential to initialize the Commerce configuration. This process creates the foundational configuration data required for Commerce operations to function correctly.
Prerequisites
Before running the initialization process, ensure that the following prerequisites are completed:
- Language setup is configured in the legal entity
- Postal address setup is completed for the legal entity
Note: The initialization process will fail or produce incomplete results if these prerequisites are not met.
How to Initialize Commerce Configuration
Follow the steps below to initialize the seed data:
- Navigate to Retail and Commerce
- Go to Headquarters setup
- Select Parameters
- Open Commerce parameters
- On the General tab, click Initialize
This action triggers the creation of essential Commerce configuration data.
Default Data Created During Initialization
The initialization process automatically creates the following standard configuration components:
- Commerce scheduler jobs and sub-jobs
- Commerce channel schema
- Commerce distribution schedules
- Default screen layouts, including button grids, images, and themes
- Time zone information
- Point-of-sale (POS) operations
- POS permissions
- Channel reports
- Attribute metadata
- Entity validation templates
- Batch job for purging Commerce Data Exchange session history
Post-Initialization Configuration
Once the initialization is complete, additional Commerce-specific configurations must be performed to make the environment operational. Common examples include:
- Commerce parameters
- Commerce scheduler parameters
- Commerce channels
- Registers and devices
- Assortments
Proper configuration of these elements ensures smooth end-to-end retail and Commerce operations.
