How to Set Up a Warehouse in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce

Setting up a warehouse is a key step when configuring a new channel in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce. This guide walks you through the process of configuring a Site, creating the warehouse, setting up inventory aisles and locations, and completing the warehouse setup.

Creating / Configure a Site

Before creating a warehouse, you must first configure a warehouse site.

Steps to configure a warehouse site:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Retail and Commerce > Channel Setup > Sites.
  2. On the Action Pane, select New.
  3. In the Site field, enter: CENTRAL/EAST/WEST/DC.
  4. In the Name field, enter: Central / Distribution /East / West.
  5. In the General section, select the appropriate Time Zone: (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi Muscat.
  6. In the Addresses section, enter an address (optional).
  7. Warehouse tab, Default inventory status ID (Available)
  8. Click Save on the Action Pane.

Set Up a Warehouse

Once the warehouse site is configured, you can create a warehouse to manage inventory.

Steps to set up a warehouse:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Retail and Commerce > Channel Setup > Warehouses.
  2. On the Action Pane, select New.
  3. In the Warehouse field, enter: Houston.
  4. In the Name field, enter: Houston Inventory Location.
  5. In the Site drop-down list, select: CENTRAL.
  6. In the Type field, select: Default.
    • To create a Quarantine or Transit warehouse, repeat the above steps and select the appropriate type.
  7. Quarantine warehouse (QW-CENTRAL)
  8. Transit Warehouse (TW-CENTRAL)
  9. Default receipt location (HOUSTON)
  10. Default Issue location (HOUSTON)
  11. Click Save on the Action Pane.

Set Up Inventory Aisles

Inventory aisles organize your warehouse for easier inventory management.

Steps to set up inventory aisles:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Retail and Commerce > Channel Setup > Location Setup > Inventory Aisles.
  2. On the Action Pane, select New.
  3. In the Warehouse drop-down, select the warehouse you created earlier (HOUSTON).
  4. In the Aisle field, enter a name (Def).
  5. In the Name field, enter a descriptive name (Default aisle).
  6. Click Save.

Set Up Warehouse Inventory Locations

Warehouse inventory locations allow you to manage standard, damaged, and returned inventory.

Steps to configure inventory locations:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Retail and Commerce > Channel Setup > Warehouses.
  2. Select your warehouse and click Edit.
  3. On the Action Pane, select Warehouse > Inventory Location > New.
  4. Ensure the Warehouse drop-down defaults to your (HOUSTON)warehouse.
  5. Enter the following details for each location

  1. Click Save after creating each location.

Complete Warehouse Setup

After defining locations and aisles, finalize the warehouse configuration.

Steps to complete setup:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Retail and Commerce > Channel Setup > Warehouses.
  2. Select your warehouse and click Edit.
  3. Under Inventory and Warehouse Management:
    • Set Default Receipt Location to the default location.
    • Set Default Issue Location to the default location.
  4. Under Addresses, enter the warehouse address.
  5. Under Retail:
    • Set Default Return Location to the returns location.
    • Set Store to Yes.
    • Set Weight to 1.00.
    • In Storage Dimensions, enter the default location.
  6. Under Warehouse, set Physical Negative Inventory to Yes.
  7. Click Save.
